You want to know what my favorite part of the summer is. It is when I come home, wear my comfy pajamas and watch my favorite shows while eating a big bowl of chocolate ice cream. I can’t imagine having a great summer (or basically any season) without Netflix. Almost every year, they come up with an impressive line of new series. This year is certainly not an exception. I have handpicked some of the most binge-worthy series that you should not miss this season.
- Dear White People
Based on Justin Simien’s sensational work, this comedy drama has just the right amount of satire in it. The story revolves around a white Ivy League university and how it got into a debate after a black Halloween party. The first season of the series will stream on April 28 this year.
Inspired by the bestselling book of the same name, it stars Britt Robertson as a lead and is produced by none other than Charlize Theron. Netflix will stream the first season of Girlboss on April 21.
- The OA
Netflix released the first season of The OA in December last year. The story revolves around the life of a blind girl who got her eyesight back after experiencing a near-death experience. Though, she came back to our world with a clear idea of how one can enter the other dimension. If you are a fan of Brit Marling’s brilliance, then you can’t miss this one.
If you want to give yourself a break and watch something light yet cheerful, then this is just the perfect series for you. Love is an anti rom-com series featuring the lives of two confused millennials. You can already stream its first two seasons on Netflix.
- 13 Reasons Why
Based on Jay Asher’s bestselling novel, 13 Reasons Why is probably one of the best series on Netflix right now. Hannah Baker killed herself and left 13 tapes, narrating all those incidents which made her commit suicide. Trust me – this one is going to tear your heart into a million pieces.
- Stranger Things
If you haven’t watched the first season of Stranger Things yet, then don’t wait anymore. One of Netflix’s best shows till date, it will take you to a whole new dimension (like, for real). The season 2 will start streaming in October, so you still have a while to watch the first season till then.
- Santa Clarita Diet
If you are a Drew Barrymore fan, then you can’t miss this one. The comedy is not about zombies, it’s about their eating problems (yes, you have read it right). The first season was made available on Netflix earlier this February.
Jason Momoa (Aquaman aka Kahl Drogo) has been highly appreciated for his powerhouse performance in Frontier. The historical drama is a mini-series of just 6 episodes, so you can easily stream it over a weekend.
- The Defenders
This is the most highly anticipated project of the Netflix Marvel universe till date. After the success of series like Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Jessica Jones, Netflix is all set to treat its fans with this mega series. It is expected to premiere on August 18, later this year.
- Orange is the New Black
If you haven’t heard of OITNB, then you are probably living under a rock. It is the most successful and critically acclaimed Netflix series of all time. The series is based on the real-life experiences of Piper Chapman’s stay in an all-women’s prison for 15 months. Its fifth season will stream on June 9, 2017. Hurry up and catch all the previous seasons beforehand.
- A Series of Unfortunate Events
The comedy drama has been inspired by the novel series of the same name. It stars Neil Patrick Harris (who is also the producer of the series) and is already renewed for two more seasons. The first season of the series comprises of eight episodes and premiered on January 13, earlier this year.
Netflix will premiere this highly awaited miniseries on May 12. It is based on L.M. Montgomery’s novel, Anne of Green Gables. If you wish to watch something spectacular (and memorable), then this is just the perfect series for you.
So what are you waiting for? Get ready with a tub of popcorn (or ice cream, if you are someone like me) and have an unforgettable summer.
