These 11 Movies Are Going To Be Flag-bearers Of Feminism In 2017. . .

Gone are the days when any run of the mill movie with big stars was able to be a blockbuster. With the changing times, filmmakers are genuinely walking an extra mile for their audience. It is said that our movies reflect our society in more ways than one can imagine and the Indian filmmakers are making an effort to empower feminism with their work. In the coming months, we will be treated with some of the best works of stars like Deepika Padukone, Kangana Ranaut, Sridevi, and more. Here’s our selection of some of the most highly-anticipated female-centric movies of 2017 that we can’t wait to watch!

  1. Mom
I won’t say it is Sridevi’s comeback, as she never really left our hearts. The veteran actor is all set to return to the big screen after almost four years since the release of English Vinglish. The teaser of the movie is already out, but it doesn’t really give away anything related to its plot. The movie will be released on July 14, later this year.
  2. Simran
If you are also a fan of Kangana Ranaut (like me), then you can’t miss this one. The movie is based on the story of an Indian girl, living in the US, and how she got involved in a series of dreadful criminal events. It is scheduled to be released on September 15, 2017.
  3. Tumhari Sulu
We will see Vidya Balan playing a happy-go-lucky character in this one. It will be the story of a housewife and how she got a life-changing opportunity to work as a night RJ. The filming has already begun and the movie is expected to hit the big screen later this year.
  4. Naam Shabana
Taapsee Pannu is currently the talk of the B-town for her gripping performance in Naam Shabana. The movie was a prequel to Baby and has been directed by Shivam Nair. It was already released on March 31 and you should definitely watch it (if you haven’t already).
  5. Noor
After her action-packed performances in movies like Force 2 and Akira, we will see Sonakshi Sinha playing a girl next door in this one. Its teaser already looks pretty promising and I can’t wait for its release, which is scheduled for April 21.
  6. Padmavati
Who doesn’t love Deepika Padukone, right? She has already teamed with Sanjay Leela Bhansali for this epic historical drama. It also stars eminent actors like Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh. Amidst all the controversy, I hope the movie will be released on its scheduled date (November 17, 2017).
  7. Begum Jaan
The movie has already hit the big screen recently, but I had to include it here for Vidya Balan’s stunning performance. This one needs no introduction. Check this epic historical drama and be ready to be soaked in to its amazing storyline.
  8. Main, Indu
Kirti Kulhari came into the limelight after her impressive performance in Pink. She is all set to amaze her fans with another power-packed performance in Main, Indu. Directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, it is set in the times of National Emergency and will hit the big screen by the end of this year.
  9. Haseena (The Queen of Mumbai)
Shraddha Kapoor is up for one of the most challenging roles of her career in Haseena. The movie is based on a real-life character, Haseena Parkar (Dawood Ibrahim’s sister). Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, it is expected to be released on July 14.
  10. Maatr
Raveena Tandon is back with a bang this year. Maatr is a dark criminal drama that will make you question the fundamental judicial system. When it comes to rape, who is the real victim? The movie will make you ask yourself this hard-hitting question. It will be released on April 21.
  11. Secret Superstar
After the overwhelming success of Dangal, we all are eagerly waiting for Zaira Wasim’s performance in Secret Superstar. This Indian musical drama is all set to break plenty of stereotypes related to the music industry. Its teaser is already out and looks pretty promising (with Aamir Khan’s appearance). The movie is set for a release on August 4, 2017.
Mark these dates on your calendar as you can’t miss these powerful performances for sure. Is there any other female-centric movie that you are waiting for this year? Do let us know in the comments below.
