Movies that have India in the backdrop
Spotting India in foreign films is a thrill in itself. We are all used to seeing exotic beautiful locations in Bollywood films but when it is upside down, the excitement reaches an all new level. Here are few Hollywood movies which were shot in India and India proved to be a perfect location for the same:
- Mission Impossible-4
The sight of Tom Cruise running around the busy streets of Mumbai was simply amazing. Some scenes were also shot in Bangalore. The film also starred Anil Kapoor.
- Eat, Pray, Love
Based on the book with same name penned by Elizabeth Gilbert, Julia Roberts character goes to various places like Italy, India and Bali in order to find herself. The India part of the film was shot in Delhi and Pataudi.
The James Bond film that starred Roger Moore and our very own Kabir Bedi was shot in Udaipur and beautifully captures the royal palace.
- Life Of Pie
The beauty of Kerala and Pondicherry is so perfectly captured in the movie which is based on a book by same name. Starring Irrfan Khan, Suraj Sharma and Tabu, the movie is about a boy who survives an ocean storm in the company of a Bengal Tiger and a hyena.
A comedy film which shows a foreigner and his counterparts being outsourced to India was shot in Mumbai. The film beautifully captures the chaos that arises when an American lands up in a busy city like Mumbai.
- The Darjeeling Limited
This is a story of three brothers who re-united in their mission of spiritual pursuit on a train to Darjeeling. The movie was shot in Jodhpur and stars Owen Wilson. Another Indian aspect to this movie is Satyajit Ray who highly inspired the movie’s director Wes Anderson.
- Slumdog Millionaire
This Oscar winning doesn’t need aby description. The book that is based on “Q&A” by Vikas Swarup is shot in Mumbai and its slum areas of Dharavi. The movie stars Freida Pinto, Dev Patel, Anil Kapoor and Irrfan Khan.
A biography on Steve Jobs starring Ashton Kutcher had some parts shot in India. Steve Jobs trip to India in 1974 was shot in locations like Vrindavan and Delhi.
- Million Dollar Arm
The journey of two Indians who came from a small village of Madhya Pradesh to becoming pitchers for a Pittsburg baseball team has some parts shot in Mumbai. The music for this film has been composed by A R Rahman.
- The Bourne Supremacy
The second installment of this spy film series which stars Matt Damon, Julia Stiles, Brian Cox amongst others was shot in Goa.
