Shopping can be a rather expensive hobby. Plus with the festive season coming up and the sales being put up everywhere, it is difficult not to indulge yourself in some shopping. After all, shopping is a therapy! But overindulging and over-shopping is definitely not good.
Here are a few tips on how to control you during sales season:
- DON’T MAKE THAT BORED BUY
With all those shopping apps and the browsing and buying being done with a simple swipe, try and not open those apps when you have got nothing better to do. Yes it is very easy to add those cute little things to the cart and simply press “Buy Now” but admit it; you don’t need those right now. You may be satisfied with your purchase but that is very short-lived.
- AVOID THE OFFER-YOU-CANT-REFUSE BUY
With so many deals going on, be it be the flash deals, the deals of the day, the deals of the month or that buy two get one free offer, you are sure to find so many offers you just can’t say no to. Those shoes you always loved were never ever at such a rate. But then you already have so many pairs of shoes. Avoid making such purchases because that stuff will hardly ever be used.
- BE PICKY
Start getting very picky about the purchases. Mainly control that impulse buying. Ask yourself a million questions about whether you really need to buy? Will that purchase make things easier for you? Those questions will evaluate your shopping and you will make better decisions.
- CREATE A 30-DAY LIST
Make a rule not to buy anything within 30-days of last purchase. Wait till 30-days have passed and then only you can make that purchase. Many times you will find yourself not making that purchase, simply because that was an urge. Now that has passed.
- MONITOR YOUR URGES
You may get urges at different point of time to make a purchase but control those urges. The urges may be a result of your mood swings, an output of something that happened earlier today and hence it is necessary to not to give into those urges. Monitor them and be aware of them.
- FREEZE YOUR CARD
This is a very harsh step but an effective one too. If controlling yourself while using your credit card is a problem, consider giving it up entirely. Freeze that card. So whenever you wish to make a purchase, you will have to unfreeze it or make cash payment. This will definitely curb down your purchases.
- CHANGE HOW AND WHEN YOU BUY
Change your routine of how and when you shop. Making a change in something that has now become a habit or a routine will also bring a change in how you do it. Introspect yourself the first time you do it differently and you will find positive changes.
- MAKE A WISH LIST
Every time you feel like you want to buy a certain item, write it down. Make a list of the whole lot of things you wish to buy. And whenever you go shopping buy only those items that are on the list. Do not buy a thing more. Items other than those on the list are something you don’t need.
