I do not own a car.
Yes, it might surprise a few of you, but Uber is more than just an app for me. It’s my lifeline. I use it to commute almost every single day and can easily distinguish between different types of Uber or Ola drivers that one can encounter. Here’s my rundown with a sincere apology to that one driver whom I gave a bad rating last year.
- The talker
Almost everyone has encountered a talker. They like to know everything about you and can’t stop talking about their life, the weather, global warming… well, you get the point, right?
Sometimes, all you need is a quiet ride after a long day at work!
- The pro
They have been driving for years and have encountered thousands of riders like you by now. They know everything. Everything!
- The GPS lover
They can’t move without turning on the GPS. Period.
- The GPS hater
Just the opposite of the GPS-lover, they repel technology and sometimes find it hard to operate their device. They will never turn on the GPS, even when they have no idea where they are going.
- The silent type
They don’t say a thing and let you have your own moment, knowing that after the ride you both would be giving each other a 5-star rating.
- The storyteller
They might seem like the “talker” in the beginning, but they are simply philosophers in disguise. They are storytellers and will impress you with their narration in no time.
- The newbie
They are still trying to figure out how Uber/Ola works and are completely new to the town.
- The old-school one
They have been driving cabs for ages and have upgraded themselves with the change in technology.
- The small talker
They would smile and greet you a little – and that would be all. You know you are going to have a peaceful time for the rest of the ride.
- The music lover
The good news is that they will always have an AUX cable. The bad news is that they might not give it to you and keep playing their own music.
- The candy man
You can’t really give a bad rating to those who give you a free candy during the ride.
- The wannabe racer
The racer-turned- cab-driver who just can’t give up on their dreams so easily!
- The one who can’t find your location
They take forever to find your pickup location and can frustrate you a little even before the commencement of your ride.
- The good host
Just like a good host, they would offer water and mint to make you feel like home in no time!
- The local homie
The one who knows everything about your town and will make you familiar with some of the best shortcuts.
- The regular one
Remember the feeling you get when you visit your go-to restaurant and the server comes with your regular order. This is exactly how it feels to ride with your regular driver. If you are a frequent user of the app, chances are that you would stumble upon the same driver every now and then. They know your route and your preferences, which make them the best one of the lot!
No matter what kind of driver you may encounter the next time, try to be grateful to them. Without them, you would still be stuck in a traffic jam.
