Things You Should Prepare Before Going for An Interview. . .

So, you are all geared up for your first job interview. Naturally, you are anxious as this is the thing you have been waiting for long. But one thing you should remember is that you are not alone there; you will have competitors. In order to outshine others and grab the attention of the interviewers, you should prepare yourself well, even if there are a few days left for it.

How to Prepare?

  1. Do an interview research
This is the first thing you should do before preparing for an interview. You should try to find as much information regarding the interviewer as possible. You can call up the person who arranged for your interview and ask some basic questions about who you will be talking to during the interview and what are their basic expectations. Ask whether there is any dress code on the day of the interview you need to follow. If you are not fully informed about the job description, ask the concerned person about it.
  2. Do some research on your own
Next, research about the company by visiting the company website. This will give you an added information about the company like what are the fields of industries they deal in, who is the mastermind behind the establishment, their products or services, any awards and accolades the company won or not. You should not overlook key literature like the last financial reports, net profit turnover, business plans and strategies, corporate social responsibility and most importantly their reviews and ratings. Search their social media profiles to know more about them.
  3. Search for potential interview questions
If you are a fresher, then you must get a good idea about what are some of the basic questions asked in an interview. Questions like “tell me something about yourself” or “why should we hire you” are very common but nonetheless tricky. You should know how to answer them. There are innumerable websites and YouTube videos which will guide you on how to face your first interview. In a nutshell, you should anticipate some potential research questions and prepare to answer them accordingly.
  4. Learn about the job descriptions
This is extremely important as the company won’t settle with a person who has any idea about the job post he/she will be offered. So, research well about the job description, what are the roles you need to play and what will the company expect from your services.
These are the preliminary preparations which you would start taking before the day of the interview. Now, when the day comes, there are a few things you should do:
  • Be calm and composed and try not to get excited.
  • Prepare your CV well; most importantly questions regarding your skills and activities.
  • Dress well, but make sure you don’t go overboard with your attire. Wear something which you are comfortable with and which lets your personality shine.

Finally, always remember, that this may not be the only interview you will face. If you get through, you are lucky and if you don’t, then you can take this as an experience which will guide you in your future interview.
