No matter how much we criticize the ongoing saas-bahu drama scene of our television, it wasn’t always the same. There was a time when it used to telecast a wide range of shows. From comedy to action and drama to sci-fi, they got every 90s kid hooked on to their television set. Here is our rundown of some of the best shows that shaped our childhood days and made them so damn special!
- Hum Paanch
We can’t commence without including this legendary show in our list. The comedy drama narrated the life of a typical dysfunctional family and became one of the funniest sitcoms to air on Indian television. Also, it gave us Vidya Balan.
- Hip Hip Hurray
Every teenager out there was able to relate to the seniors of the DeNobili High School. Truth to be told – I still watch some of its episodes on YouTube.
- Malgudi Days
Can you really forget watching Malgudi Days? The series was based on an anthology written by R.K. Narayan and touched the lives of so many people out there.
I know you are humming its title track right now! This fantasy drama took us to a whole new world and became one of our favorites in no time.
- Office Office
This one made Pankaj Kapoor a household name. The show’s hilarious take on the corrupt and lazy professionals made this one nothing less than a 90s classic.
It was probably the first Indian superhero show that left such a huge impact on Indian television. Here’s a secret – when I was a kid, I even bought his superhero costume.
- Alif Laila
The show was based on the stories of “One Thousand and One Nights” and used to take us to an unimaginable Arabic land. It wasn’t like most of the fantasy shows they telecast these days. It was just made for 90s kids like us!
- Captain Vyom
The show used to take us to an inter-galactic mission every weekend. We also adored the show for its amazing cast that had actors like Milind Soman, Rahul Bose, and Dino Morea.
- Raja aur Rancho
If you think Sherlock is cool, then think of this 90s detective who had a monkey as his sidekick.
- Boogie Woogie
The show added just the right dose of dance and music to our life. Here’s to the boo!
- Sa Re Ga Ma Pa
It will always remain the original reality TV show that gave us some of the best singers of our time like Shreya Ghosal, Sanjivani, Kamal Khan, and a lot more.
- Shriman Shrimati
A comedy series at its best, this one took the idea of love thy neighbor to a whole new level.
I don’t know much about you, but I’m getting quite nostalgic. Thankfully, some of these shows are still available on YouTube. I’m off to watch their re-runs and living a part of my childhood once again.
