Okay! So I’m going to put it out there for once and all – ending a true friendship is a whole lot harder than breaking up with someone romantically. Over the course of time, we outgrow ourselves and keep losing a few friends. After all, we aren’t still in touch with every school or college friends of ours, right?
But then there are a few people who stay with us in the long run. This is what makes them not just a true friend, but an integral part of our life. Sadly, when we end our friendship with them, it leaves us heartbroken. Too many times, we simply drift away due to time and distance while there are times when that one big fight ruins it all. No matter what the reason is, it always hurts to lose a friend. Here’s what makes it so damn hard.
- You never see it coming
Source - Just going back to your routine and being a stranger to your friend doesn’t really work.
Source - With time you make new friends, but you realize that unlike things, you can’t replace people
Source - In the end, you give up finding someone else to fill their space.
Source - Even if you do, the fear of losing a friend again makes it so damn hard.
Source - It becomes a constant void in your life. Even a couple of years down the lane you think about it.
Source - You keep thinking about all those amazing memories you created in the past, which makes you regret losing them all over again.
Source - They knew too much about you. With time you realize that you can’t start fresh with someone else just like that!
Source - You were addicted to them. Losing them would be just like losing a part of you.
Source - If you have been betrayed by a friend, then it hurts you immensely by targeting you in your most vulnerable state.
Source - If you have mutual friends, then dealing with them becomes next to impossible.
Source - You would be skipping plenty of mutual gatherings that would affect your social life a lot!
Source - The series of ‘what ifs’ and ‘buts’ won’t stop haunting you.
Source - You can’t gossip or just talk about an irrelevant thing for hours with that one friend who used to get you!
Source - Forget about going out with them to your favorite restaurant or café. In fact, every time you would go out to your favorite place, you would think of all those amazing moments (and that would make you sad all over again).
Source - You can’t really talk about it with someone else as well because they just won’t get it.
Source - The only person you want to talk about losing your best friend – is your best friend.
Source - You just stay there, all by yourself, hoping to mend the bridges with your friend.

They say when you lose a lover, you give away half of your heart, but when you lose a friend, you give away half of your soul. So cherish the people you have in your life. It’s never too late to let your friends know how much you love them!
